So, what’s Your Sexual Preference ?

People are applauding Arizona Governor Jan Brewer for vetoing the bill SB1062, which would have allowed people to refuse their services to gays and others, based on their religious beliefs. What religious belief says you can’t sell something or serve something to a person other than yourself ?

And why the applaud ? Why should this bill even have been brought to the floor for discussion at all ? It is sponsored by Senator Steve Yarbrough, of Chandler, AZ. “This bill is not about allowing discrimination,” he said during a debate that stretched for nearly two hours. “This bill is about preventing discrimination against people who are clearly living out their faith.”

The proposals are backed by the powerful Center for Arizona Policy, a social-conservative group that backs anti-abortion and conservative Christian legislation in the state. I wondered who was behind this. How surprising. I’ve never seen so much hate, violence, terrorism and division in the name of God. What bible says “Hate thy Neighbor,” Or “Love thy Neighbor, unless they’re gay, Black, Hispanic or other.” They must be like you. This country is one big melting pot, representing hundreds of different cultures and backgrounds. How could any of us be the same ? That’s what’s so great about the U.S. We’re not.

Are they going to become Nazi’s ? Make sure you take away people’s rights you don’t agree with or like. Maybe next, it will be their life, because they might be deemed inferior. Isn’t that what Hitler said ? He wanted a superior race that was Aryan ? Exterminate (like an insect infestation) all the Jews and while you’re at it take the gypsies and anyone that doesn’t meet our criteria with them.

And how will we know if someone’s gay ?Ask them ? I know a few masculine looking women. They could be mistaken for Lesbians, if you went by the stereotype, but they’re not. One is married and one is looking for a 2nd husband. And men ? Not every man is macho. I know a few that are on the cusp of feminine. I was convinced one man was definitely gay a few years ago, until he asked me out. So, how will we know ? Do we put a rainbow symbol on them, like the Nazi’s made the Jews sew yellow stars on their clothing ? This of course, was for easy identification.

If people didn’t have stars visible, maybe they were like everyone else and weren’t Jewish. If Gays and Lesbians aren’t identified in some obvious way, maybe they are like everyone else. It’s 2014. Get over it. Haven’t we learned anything ? Blacks were 2nd class citizens long after Lincoln freed the slaves. They couldn’t be served at certain establishments either. Is this what we’re going back to ?

Maybe the people in power shouldn’t be. Maybe religion shouldn’t be combined with politics and all these crazy fanatics who think they’re passing on the word of God should just stick to their church and beliefs. They need to stop calling what they don’t like a sin, because if they really believe there is a God, then it’s up to God to judge that, not them. All they have to remember is that they are not God. They weren’t promoted to that high of an echelon. In fact if it were up to me, I’d demote them all in a big way.

Maybe if they’re so homophobic and threatened, they should reassess their own sexuality. I have had and still do, some gay and Lesbian friends. I hug them. It never once occurred to me that they might be getting aroused. I don’t think they did. I’m a full blooded heterosexual and I also hug straight men, but I don’t think twice about that either.

I know who I am. I’m secure in my own sexuality and it’s none of my business to question someone else’s. If God were visible and could be here to talk, I’m sure he or she would be appalled by all this crap we throw out while using his or her name. Love is love and it comes in all sizes, shapes, genders, cultures and ages. If two consenting adults are kind to each other and others, contribute to society, pay their taxes, love their friends and family, who are you or me or anyone else to judge them ?

People who are against these actions, have a choice. Take a stand like so many did. Put pressure on politicians and the people trying to set these laws into place and tell them it’s unacceptable. And most of all, vote differently. DO NOT re-elect these same jerks or nothing will change. And you will have the same conversation over and over.

A saying says, “Don’t judge my life, unless yours is perfect.” I doubt it is, especially if you’re trying to condemn someone you don’t even know, for actions that have nothing to do with you. If you’re a Christian, then you must have heard of the 10 commandments, one of which says-
You shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

And most of all, when was the last time someone asked you what you did in the bedroom and what you liked ? Exactly.

About aboomersvoice

First and foremost, I'm a baby boomer and damn proud of it. The ones reading this post survived. Some didn't..We are the generation that crashed through barriers, broke through the norm and made our own rules. We paved the way for others to follow their bliss. One of the largest breakthroughs was probably equal rights and opportunities for women. Thank you Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan. We burned our bras, well, most of us did. We marched against politics we didn't believe in, staged protests not knowing we could easily be silenced by a bullet, experimented with drugs, meditation and guru's. We traveled with backpacks across the country and throughout the world..We had a voice. We had a choice. We had a mission. We had freedom and we were united. I am a writer, traveler, explorer, observer and participant in life. I am part of the expansion of baby boomers who still believe in the original message of peace and love. Take this journey.with me. Who knows where it will take us next ?
