I am from Boston, Ma, in the U.S. for my overseas friends in other parts of the world. I only recently moved to the outer Cape, about 2 hours away on the coast.
The Boston Marathon is the oldest and most prestigious in the country. Runners from all over the world train to come here.
There were a few bombs that went off at the finish line. Two are confirmed dead and about 25 people, as of now, have been hospitalized. Two more are confirmed critical. They have lost limbs, legs, ankles.
The bomb squad just found two more bombs and dismantled them. This is dispicable. There are hundreds of thousands of people here. I used to live down the street from the finish line.
So many times, I have been at that finish line. Standing so close. Probably steps from where those bombs went off. This should have been a happy moment and celebration. Instead, I heard after the second explosion, people started to move through the barricades and started running.
Just when you think you might be safe. These were small bombs, low to the ground. And intentional. I’m sure those spineless terrorists are happy. I hope they are caught and rot in jail.
IMPORTANT NEWS- If you’re in Boston, DO NOT use your cell phones. On TV broadcast, Police just said that there is a possibility it could set off more bombs. Be Careful and pray for all those injured and their families.
MY thoughts and sympathy go to all the people in Boston who were caught up in this terrible event and to their families. I’m familiar with it, because it’s what the IRA did for years in England and Ireland funded by money from overseas. And I fear it’s happening all the time in Iraq, and Pakistan and other places too. The randomness is horrible, and the motivation a mystery, when most people just want to live in peace…. and maybe love their neighbour….

Thanks for asking. We moved the end of January and we’re still settling in. Utah is beautiful and it will always be with me, but Arizona is new opportunity (though I find I’m having to look for it) and I DO miss my friends. Sigh.

Right timing for new life adventure. Sometimes, in some way, people need to stretch themselves. I hope you are sleeping well after your harrowing night being so close to all that went on. What a sad, sad story for our country.

It’s a shame we have to be concerned that on any day, we now have to watch our backs and be concerned about safety.

Violence against runners? Really? As a Boston marathon runner, Massachusetts my home state, and always my home, my heart goes out to runners, their families, their friends, and to all of the spectators. And to the greater Boston area, and runners everywhere. Much love and prayers from a (now) Wisconsin runner and more generally, from yet another person who continues to wonder when violence will cease. A blessing for healing Boston, from Wisconsin.

I remember when you ran Deb. It was a different time. No one even thought of safety. It was a given then.

I would like to think it wasn’t that long ago! We should not have to define the length of our days by how safe it used to be. We shouldn’t have to….
