A debate between the vice-presidents. This time, Biden took command and knew his facts. He was more polished and exuded the charisma, posture and demeanor of an elected official in high office. In my estimation, he won.
Ryan often looked like a little boy, searching endlessly to skirt the issues. He was effective. I’ve yet to hear a plan. From either of them. Lots of ideas, but no- how we’re going to get there. Even when Martha asked him directly, he still came up short. I could go on TV and say we need to create jobs, need to bring the deficit down cut taxes for the middle class and get our economy thriving. But how ? No one knows. Does he ?
As most of us, I’m sick of it. I’m tired of hearing “And I approve this message…” Well I don’t. For either side. Hundreds of millions of dollars are being spent on these campaigns. I understand there has to be a level playing field, but both parties should be ashamed of themselves.
Do they realize what that money can do ? Help save thousands of people from going into foreclosure, create jobs, give people a helping hand who needs it, educate and train those out of work, to find suitable employment and put them back to work, rebuild our bridges and roads, add-on fire and police men and women and so on.
One more thing- either we get on the same health care plan as they’re on, or they forfeit their plan until they figure out a new one and then they can be on our plan. After all, we’re paying for it. How fast do you think they’ll get things done then ?
Last week I watched late night tv and Letterman had the prime minister of England on. He was asked what he thought of our election process. He said, “Well, first of all, I never had to say and I approve this message. Political ads aren’t allowed to air on TV. “The roar of applause must have lasted a good 5 full minutes. And then he said, over the last 4 or 5 months he was campaigning across his country, it cost $150,000. Is he serious ? We need to take a lesson.
This country has gone crazy with advertising, super-pacs, which never should have been legalized. How much of a kick back are the judges on the supreme court making to have pushed this through ? Shame on them.
My solution Put a cap on campaign spending. One million dollars. That’ it. That’s it so anyone can run. No gifts, vacations, or money from lobbyists, so their vote isn’t bought, no advertising and if an elected official from your state is doing nothing, but biding his/her time, waiting for the next pay check or free dinner on our dime, we can fire them for non-performance. We would have been by any employer a long, long time ago.
I already know who’s getting my vote, so I’m not swayed by the debates. I just hope he gets the job done.
