Nine Eleven (911)

As I was just closing out my last post and ready to call it a night, I noticed that the date  said 9/11. Either I haven’t been watching enough prime time television, or the RNC and DNC and bad economy had over shadowed it. We usually get bombarded at least 3 or 4 days before, with yet another round of the same pictures we’ve seen for the last ten years. The towers falling, the streets ashen, the firemen going into the buildings and people running.

I don’t by any means diminish the gravity of this horrendous event , but I do know the media is so capable of overkill. And unfortunately, that can dull your senses and de-sensitize you. I don’t think any person alive today that was cognizant then, will ever forget. We don’t need the sound bites or same award winning photographs shot across the screen for us to remember. We remember. We all remember.

The other day, a friend, a professional, told me she questioned whether part of this may have been planned. I listened. Then said, “Are you talking about the conspiracy theory ?” Some people do believe it.  I can’t wrap my head around it although I know the government does a hell of a lot of things behind our backs. She said being part of a group of engineers and architects, they all had the same question. How could these buildings fall straight down the way they did. She also reminded me of a 3rd building that fell in the exact same way.

I asked why the government would do that. Why would they kill innocent people ? How could they get terrorists on suicide missions and put them up to it. She didn’t see it that way or perhaps many peoiple who believe that don’t. They think the government knew something was going to happen and took advantage of the situation. Someone had said we needed another Pearl Harbor. But why ?  Some people think war is good for the economy. Yea, Iraq did wonders for us. Also, at that time, Bush had recently taken office. Clinton left a surplus. Times were still good. So it makes no sense. Not to me anyway.

I guess their suspicion lies in how the 3 buildings fell in the same way. It looked like demolition. She said if a building is hit high up like that, it wouldn’t just crumble. I don’t study this stuff. I never thought about it and I really wouldn’t know. They also agreed that in any other crime scene, it would have been roped off. This was never investigated and they removed the debris almost immediately.  I never thought about this either.

We all have our theories on what happened that day. We all had our own personal reaction to it. I knew someone who died in one of those planes that left from Boston and crashed into the first tower. I remember how everything stopped, as though the world was moving in slow motion. All buildings were closed. The city was quiet. The air was still. It was as if everything froze for a week. So however it happened, however it happened and by who, doesn’t matter. What does is that 3,000 people died that day that didn’t have to. We all wept. We all mourned.  And for that day, the world mourned with us and we were one.

About aboomersvoice

First and foremost, I'm a baby boomer and damn proud of it. The ones reading this post survived. Some didn't..We are the generation that crashed through barriers, broke through the norm and made our own rules. We paved the way for others to follow their bliss. One of the largest breakthroughs was probably equal rights and opportunities for women. Thank you Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan. We burned our bras, well, most of us did. We marched against politics we didn't believe in, staged protests not knowing we could easily be silenced by a bullet, experimented with drugs, meditation and guru's. We traveled with backpacks across the country and throughout the world..We had a voice. We had a choice. We had a mission. We had freedom and we were united. I am a writer, traveler, explorer, observer and participant in life. I am part of the expansion of baby boomers who still believe in the original message of peace and love. Take this journey.with me. Who knows where it will take us next ?
