Still on Politics…

And furthermore…   sorry but I wasn’t quite finished about politics and that last post was so long it was over the top. So here’s the rest….

What about all those women who fought for equal rights ?  What about the lawmakers that made sure Roe v Wade was passed  to protect a woman who got pregnant by being violated,  made a mistake, or might have a child with so many disabilities it could end up being a burden to both her and the state.

Should they be forced back into the dark alleys of mock doctors with knitting needles ? Or, if an abortion is considered, should a woman have to endure an invasive procedure which probes her body in order to make sure she needs one. How dare anyone have that right. What if the men who got them pregnant also got invasive procedures ?  I doubt a woman could ever think up such a thing for another woman, not on either side of the aisle , even the most conservative . So, a man gets to dictate what we do with our bodies ? I ask myself, where in the hell did all the fair-minded, rational, sensible and sensitive people go ? Have they fallen into a delusion ? Or are women turning over their power to men who pnly want to dictate and add more corruption to the financial front by adopting the Gordon Gekko philosophy that “greed is good.”

When I speak of women’s rights, or giving more tax breaks to the wealthy and other important issues, I am not necessarily talking parties here. I am speaking of the candidates who are running and what they stand for. I am sorry to say this, but from what I’ve heard and observed, the oscar goes to the Republicans on almost every issue about women raised above.. I shudder when I think about all the rights a woman has today and how easily they can be taken away.

I think I can speak candidly when I say every person I have spoken to, whether Democrat or Republican is sick of our politicians sitting in Washington and getting nothing done. They are too busy working on their own agenda to notice our agenda and work for the American people, which is why we voted them into office to begin with. I have never seen such disrespect, disdain, arrogance and selfishness among politicians. Are the people going to vote in these same law makers ?

I remember years ago, even not that long ago, when Kennedy worked with McCain and other Republicans to co–sponsor bills to better the American people. Both parties actually worked together and sometimes agreed with each other to get things done. It’s true. Or if they disagreed on the floor they would try to come together for a compromise. They took care of business,  then would go out for a drink and socialize. Does this exist today ?

I walk away from these issues and the politics puzzled, disappointed, shocked and totally perplexed. Why is it that the logic of myself and friends have more rational solutions than the politicians ? It seems simple in theory but they make it so damn complicated. Always. There’s always a quid quo pro. Right now congress has the worst record of passing bills since 1947. Amazing, isn’t it ? No wonder nothing’s been done. Out of close to 4,ooo bills put before them, only 61 have been passed. In 4 years ? Are they kidding ? And they wonder why the country is still in bad shape ? And paralyzed ? Not everyone is numb. Those bastards planned it that way. They wanted Obama out from the day he took office. Whether you like him or wanted him, don’t you still want a brighter future ? Fairness ? Freedom ? How about they do some work and worry about elections a year or less before ? They care more about winning than the American people they are working for. We are their employers because we’re paying their salary. We should fire them for non performance.

I think there should be term limits for senators and congressmen, just as with presidents. With people in Washington for 20, 30 and 40 years, it becomes their life and lifestyle.  I say no more career politicians. No more old boy’s clubs. Get rid of it. Get rid of them. No Pac money either. That’s bullshit. Let’s put a limit on campaign spending. Let’s give a cap of $2 or 5 million so anyone can run and have a fair chance of winning. No automatic pensions for them on our backs either. Let them pay into a fund like the rest of us have so they can get social security. While I’m at it, they can get their own health care insurance too. We pay for their Cadillac health insurance ? They should get the same plan we do. Better yet, we should have their plan. We should give them ours. Wouldn’t that be sweet justice ?

I’m now exhausted and my head about to explode. A faint light is beginning to come through the trees. It’s very late or maybe very early. I never know how to preface that.  I will end with this- before you make your mind up on any candidate,  don’t believe the media, the major stations, networks and especially FOX news. Out of all of them Fox is the worst for objective information. They don’t have any. They only have biases. These days CNN, MSNBC, public TV and NPR will give you a different perspective. They are more worthy, a little more objective, but I have had my suspicious about some of them lately too.

I use caution with what I hear. I check the lie-o-meter. Fact check. There are sites where that’s all they do. On both sides. Decide for yourself. But don’t believe the spin. Because often that’s all there is. So, I repeat- DO NOT GET YOUR FACTS FROM TV. The only ones you’ll find are diluted somewhere between the sound bites and visual effects. Again, fact check. Go to Politifact.com or politico.com. They will tell you true and false on both sides. They just tell the facts. Not tell a story. Don’t worry, I’ll get to the other party. Fair is fair.. And I can only end by saying, whatever you do, Do your homework.

Till next we meet….

About aboomersvoice

First and foremost, I'm a baby boomer and damn proud of it. The ones reading this post survived. Some didn't..We are the generation that crashed through barriers, broke through the norm and made our own rules. We paved the way for others to follow their bliss. One of the largest breakthroughs was probably equal rights and opportunities for women. Thank you Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan. We burned our bras, well, most of us did. We marched against politics we didn't believe in, staged protests not knowing we could easily be silenced by a bullet, experimented with drugs, meditation and guru's. We traveled with backpacks across the country and throughout the world..We had a voice. We had a choice. We had a mission. We had freedom and we were united. I am a writer, traveler, explorer, observer and participant in life. I am part of the expansion of baby boomers who still believe in the original message of peace and love. Take this journey.with me. Who knows where it will take us next ?
