The Beginning

THE BEGINNING

Sounds a bit biblical, but I can assure you it isn’t.  I started this blog because I am a writer. No, a real writer, one that’s actually been paid for her work. One who still fact checks. One who researches her sources, rather than take them from network news. I worked as a reporter and am a published poet. Writing has always been easy for me and in most cases, the best source of communication. Who can argue with a page ?

I started this blog because our generation is always evolving and re-creating ourselves. We were the ones to challenge the norm and discard old modes of thinking. We bulldozed our way through barriers, women crashed through glass ceilings and  along the way, created new concepts and ideas of what was important.  We widened the road for future generations.

We were the generation that was given various titles.  We were synonymous with hippies, yippies, yuppies and baby boomers. I may have missed a few through a drunken haze, but you get the picture.

So now that we have tipped the fence and are on the other side of youth, what now ? What’s left ? Where do we go from here ? And after a lifetime of changing the world, free love, drugs, rock and roll, rehab, kids, wealth, less wealth, health, what has been the biggest challenge ?  What has been your greatest lesson ? And right now, what is the most important issue, goal or thing in your life that matters most ?

This past year has been extremely challenging,  painful and eye-opening for me in every way. The universe has my attention. Funny how pain and sadness can make you acutely aware.  I am awake again. Due to a variety of circumstances, I have had to re-group, re-think and re-consider my life and my options. I am cognizant that I don’t have all the time in the world anymore like youth has us believing we do.  I can measure my time in an estimate.

I could go on as writing is my forte and words flow easily, but in this first blog, I’d like you to ask yourself the hard questions. Is this where I thought I’d be at this juncture of life ? Many of us dreamed of something different.

What do you want to fulfill, do, participate in or achieve while you still can ? Do you want to survive life or live it ? So, think about it for a bit and then ask yourself, where do I go from here and how am I going to get there ?
